Distance Learning and ICT’s for education and training

Compared to conventional presence-based study distance learning (DL) has the advantage to facilitate learning for large numbers of people located in remote distances, at reduced costs while providing easy access to information, dissemination, networking and exchange. Distance learning relies on learners being computer literate and able to interact in virtual environments and on provision of instructional designs that are logistically feasible and pedagogically engaging, providing opportunities for discussion and support that help reduce learner isolation. Therefore, effective distance learning requires considerable start up costs such as access to the internet, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) hardware and technical support.
